The City of Mitchell would like everyone to know about two ways for you to stay informed on news releases, city alerts, and public safety alerts affecting our community.
The Public Safety department posts alerts to the "nixle" system. You can sign up to receive mobile alerts by texting your zip code to 888777; or you can visit the nixle website at: https://local.nixle.com/zipcode/57301/ to subscribe online. The requirements for this system have changed, and the city can only post public safety alerts to this system. The City will no longer be posting general alerts regarding road/parking lot closures, snow removal items, or water shut offs to this system.
If you would like to stay informed on road closures, snow removal and other city alerts; we are asking that you go to the City's website and subscribe to the City Alerts and News Flashes on the City's website. When you visit the City's website at www.cityofmitchell.org/list.aspx , you will find a list of items that you can subscribe to for future notifications. The website will ask that you create an account and then you can choose which notifications you would like to receive, and if you would prefer to receive those notifications by email or by text messaging. If you do not want to create an account, you can also view any posted alerts or newsflashes on the City's website www.cityofmitchell.org. If the City has active alerts they will be posted on an "alert bar" at the top of the website. Any newsflashes are posted on the homepage as well.
In addition to the website, the City also has a mobile app that mirror's the website. You can find it in the mobile app store by searching for "City of Mitchell SD". You can view the alert center and news flashes on the City's mobile app or on the City's website without creating an account.
