The City of Mitchell has announced that the search process for a new Public Safety Director has been opened, due to the upcoming retirement of Public Safety Director Lyndon Overweg. Lyndon will serve the last day of his 31 years of service to the Mitchell community on June 14th. "Lyndon Overweg has been an invaluable member of this community and our team. He has maintained a commitment to providing a high standard of public safety, and he has volunteered his time and talents on numerous volunteer boards and projects in Mitchell." stated Mayor Bob Everson. "He will be missed". When asked about his upcoming retirement, Lyndon stated that "It has been a great honor to work for the City of Mitchell. I have been blessed to work for a community that has a strong commitment to Public Safety".
The City of Mitchell anticipates the selection process to run through the summer with a new candidate selected to start in September, 2019. The Mayor stated that Assistant Fire Chief Marius Laursen will serve as the Acting Chief of the Fire & EMS Divisions and Assistant Police Chief Mike Koster will service as the acting Chief of the Police & Communication Division until the Director of Public Safety Position is filled. Marius Laursen and Mike Koster will be working with the Mayor and the City Administrator on departmental operations during this transition period.
